Clinical Transplants 2013, Chapter 11

Abstract

The fifty years in the title of this paper refers to the time between my first meeting with Paul Terasaki in January 1964 and his Festschrift in January 2014. What brought us together was a collection of my kidney recipients at the University of Colorado. Their allografts had been donated by blood relatives during 1962 and 1963 and transplanted under an umbrella of azathioprine and prednisone. The dozen consecutive cases reported in October 1963 made up the world’s first series of long-surviving renal allograft recipients.
