Meet Dr. Natan Barros

Dr. Barros is a Terasaki Fellow in the Department of Biomaterials at Terasaki Institute for Biomedical Innovation (TIBI) – a designed institution to invent and foster practical solutions that restore or enhance the health of individuals, where he lead a research team aimed at developing organ-on-a-chip platforms, 3D bioprinted tissues, biomaterial-based approaches for drug delivery, and understanding mechanisms of metastasis, progression and therapy resistance in solid tumors.

Dr. Barros' training includes doctoral training with Dr. Rondinelli Herculano at the Sao Paulo State University in Brazil, where I developed a biomaterial-based wound dressing to treat chronic wounds such as diabetic foot wounds and postdoctoral training with Dr. Ali Khademhosseini and Dr. Han-Jun Kim at the Terasaki Institute for Biomedical Innovation where I developed an interpenetrating ion-covalent crosslinkable bioink for 3D bioprinting of tumor in vitro models. In 2019, I held a FAPESP Visiting Researcher scholarship at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and worked with Dr. Junmin Lee and Dr. Ali Khademhosseini to develop a 3D bioprinted full-thickness skin-on-a-chip model.
