Dr. Solmaz Karamikamkar

Dr. Solmaz Karamikamkar received her M.Sc. degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC, Canada where she constructed uniform cancerous spheroids using microfluidics technology. She received her Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toronto, where she employed modified sol-gel chemistry to fabricate a novel class of carbonous silica-based aerogels with tailored porous networks and high specific surface area. Previously, she also introduced an innovative processing concept, combining physical chemistry science with advanced additive manufacturing techniques to develop a new class of porous composite materials, aerogel fibres. Dr. Karamikamkar joined the Khademhosseini lab at Terasaki Institute for Biomedical Innovation (TIBI) in October 2020 as a postdoctoral researcher. Her current research is focused on developing new class of materials for minimally invasive personalized drug delivery and therapeutic technologies.
