Satoru Kawakita is currently a biomedical engineer/data scientist at the Terasaki Institute for Biomedical Innovation (TIBI). He started his research career at the Institute in 2012 under the mentorship of Professor Paul I. Terasaki in the field of organ transplantation. In 2016, he received his M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Southern California with a focus on biostatistics and quantitative analyses of biological systems. As a data scientist, his previous research focused on the statistical analysis and machine learning to predict clinical outcomes for organ transplantation in a personalized manner. His current research projects center around translational research using data science and advanced in vitro models (e.g., Organs-on-Chips and spheroid/organoid models) to drive biomedical innovation and promote personalized medicine.
