Richard A. Van Etten, Chief Medical Officer, Helio Genomics and Director of the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, UCI

Dr. Van Etten has an extensive background in hematology and oncology. He previously served as the Director of the Tufts Cancer Center and Chief of the Hematology and Oncology Division at Tufts Medical Center.

An accomplished researcher and clinician, Dr. Van Etten has published over 90 peer-reviewed papers. He has received several prestigious awards, including the Zucker Family Research Prize and the Lucille P. Markey Scholar Award, and holds the Carl and Margaret Walter Scholar distinction. He is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group. Additionally, Dr. Van Etten is a contributing editor for UpToDate and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Clinical Oncology.

Board-certified in Hematology and Internal Medicine, Dr. Van Etten is affiliated with several medical centers, including Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, Saddleback Memorial Medical Center, and UC Irvine Medical Center. He earned his PhD in Biophysics and his MD from Stanford University, as well as a BS in Biology and Mathematics from MIT.
