The Transplant Research and Education Center (TREC) is an interdisciplinary research and education center located at the University of California, Los Angeles, and the Terasaki Institute for Biomedical Innovation, led by Dr. Amy Waterman. TREC designs award-winning, patient-tailored education and conducts research and educational interventions about kidney disease, transplant, and living donation. TREC leads the field in conducting state of the art clinical research to understand and improve important issues affecting transplant outcomes, designing and implementing interventions to reduce disparities in access to transplantation for diverse patient and donor populations, and evaluating the effectiveness of interventions to increase transplant referrals and living donation rates. Through collaboration with healthcare providers, national transplant leaders, and healthcare policymakers, TREC translates findings from clinical research into practice to ensure that patients can live longer and enjoy the best possible quality of life.

TREC’s mission is to inspire and educate people about kidney transplantation and living donation, design patient-centered health measures for transplant, reduce racial disparities in transplant, increase transplant and living donation rates, and ensure transplant adherence. TREC's vision is to increase transplant and living donation rates and solve the kidney donor shortage.
