The Terasaki Institute occupies a unique place in the world of research institutions. We combine the rigor of academic research with the agility of private sector enterprises in a mission to translate our innovation into products that matter to patients. "Converting Medical Tissue Engineering into Food Production".

The need for animal-component free culture of cells and tissues, abstinence of antibiotics and, for some consumers, genetic modification severely limit the solution-space available to developers of cultivated meat. At the same time, consumers are increasingly willing to accept alternative sources of meat, giving the field an appreciable tailwind. Given the huge potential for improvement and extension of applied tissue engineering for food, this will be a scientific endeavor for the next couple of decades.
