AMERICAN SOCIETY FOR HISTOCOMPATIBILITY AND IMMUNOGENETICS

Virtual Annual Global Meeting

The American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI) will be conducting their 46th annual international meeting on October 19-23, 2020.  Originally scheduled to take place in Anaheim, California, the event has moved to a virtual platform for the first time in the event’s history, in order to provide safe access for all attendees.  Also, ASHI will be offering the program free of charge to all members of ASHI and its sister organizations around the globe; the only thing required for members is to register online.

The ASHI planning committee has worked hard to provide a top-notch scientific program, and ASHI president-elect, William Hildebrand, Ph.D., was instrumental in helping to coordinate it.  Dr. Hildebrand, who will soon begin his 2020-2021 term as president, felt it was important for the annual meeting to continue as planned, despite the technical challenges it presented.

“With various conferences, meetings and other events forced to cancel in the spring and summer of this year because of the shutdown, I felt it was necessary for ASHI to step up and share this meeting with the entire transplant community,” said Dr. Hildebrand.  “It will give us an opportunity to review histocompatibility and immunogenetics research and clinical practices with our colleagues around the world.”

Two of the Terasaki Institute for Biomedical Innovation’s faculty will be presenting their work at the meeting.  Professor Amy Waterman, Deputy Director of the Transplant Research and Education Center at the institute will deliver a presentation on patient advocacy for kidney transplant patients and the value of storytelling by both donors and patients.

Assistant Professor Vadim Jucaud, Ph.D., will present work on his validation studies of secondary antibodies in immunoglobulin subclass testing.
