Judy Hopfield

Judy joined the Terasaki Institute for Biomedical Innovation (TIBI) as Laboratory Manager in March 2020. 

Prior to joining TIBI, Judy worked for Dr. Paul I. Terasaki for 32 years, first at the UCLA Immunogenetics Center (formerly the UCLA Tissue Typing Laboratory), and then at the Terasaki Foundation Laboratory, One Lambda, and the Terasaki Research Institute. At these organizations, Judy performed both clinical and research/development work in the organ transplant and histocompatibility field. 
At TIBI, Judy works on the Operations team, helping to manage the laboratory and provide support for the TIBI scientists. She also serves as TIBI’s Chemical Hygiene Officer, helping to see to the laboratory’s environmental health and safety needs. 
In addition, Judy works on the TIBI marketing team, writing press and other posts about the laboratory’s scientific work, as well as events, collaborations, awards, and other items of interest. 

Judy has a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from the University of California, Los Angeles, and holds a California Laboratory Scientist’s license in HLA histocompatibility testing, as well as certification from the American Society of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics as a Certified Histocompatibility Specialist. 
Judy’s personal pastimes are reading, traveling, studying languages, biking, and hiking.
