Aliesha Danielle O'Raw

Aliesha O’Raw received her M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Duke University, and has an expected defense date for her Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering in spring 2022. Her dissertation work focuses on tools to image and characterize peripheral nerves, specifically along the gut-brain axis. Leveraging these tools and technologies, she has worked on the development of novel neurostimulation applications to treat gut-based disease. Aliesha also has 3 years of experience at the Mayo Clinic researching mechanisms of neurodegenerative disease, with a focus on amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD). She has extensive experience in developing small animal models for disease, as well as preclinical studies to test novel pharmaceuticals and neurostimulation devices. She joined TIBI in February 2021 as a research scholar. Her research goals focus on development of human cell atlases along the gut-brain axis and development of novel neurostimulator technologies and applications for treatment of gut-brain disease.
