The workshop study now has 69 participating centers as you see in the table next page. The centers listed first have sent in their registered patients. We hope the other centers are making progress in collecting sera and patient data on their patients. Any patient who is more than 6 months posttransplant (regardless of tx date) with currently functioning graft can be enrolled in the study.

 

In the new 15th WS project, the focus will be placed on hearts, lungs and livers. The analysis from the 13th and 14th WS, despite small numbers, showed a striking association of HLA antibodies to graft loss in Heart and Lung, as shown below and published in our Clinical Transplants 2006 book.

 

 

 

To solidify these results, we hope to study many more patients of heart, lung, liver, and intestinal transplants.Kidneys and Kidney/Pancreas: From the prior 2 workshops, we know that patients will have a lower graft survival if they had antibodies as compared to those without antibodies. This time, we will focus on the specificity of the antibodies (DSA and NDSA), and most importantly, whether these antibodies can be removed. The first attempt should be by increasing current drugs. Failing that, change to various other drugs should be attempted (Myfortic, retuxan, ivIgG, plasmapheresis, etc).
